May 10 Conference Play
Ends
May 3 Conference results -
Metamora continues to be happy with ties and packs the box against Washington for zip-zip. The pack the box has them in fourth place in the conference. Is it fun? Morton went to Canton and held the score down to 7 against the first year Little Giants. Pekin visited the Raiders and left with a 6-1 win and Dunlap beat the Rockets 5-zip. The Dragon Eagle game next Tuesday at the Coal Mine will be for second place with both teams sporting identical 4-1-1 conference records. Limestone and Washington play the postponed game on this Thursday in a key game for fifth, and just possibily fourth, in the conference.
April 26
Conference results - Canton came to the Coal Mine and left looking like they had worked an entire shift deep in the mine instead of playing on the pitch that still had puddles. When you go down at the mine you get up dirty. No surprise here about the pitch or the final result. The Metamora visit to Morton saw the Potters rebound from a 2 - 2 tie with Nomral Community on Monday night with a 2 - zip win over the visiting stacking 'birds. Dunlap moves in to a second place tie with the Dragons following a 4 - zip win over the Raiders..
April 22 Observation about the race for second by CIS on the PJStar discussion forum ... "
IF Metamora beats or ties Morton, they will finish second place. If Metamora loses to Morton but Pekin beats Dunlap, then Pekin will finish second. If Metamora loses to Morton and Pekin ties Dunlap, then Metamora and Pekin would finish tied for second place. If Metamora loses to Morton and Pekin loses to Dunlap, then Metamora and Dunlap would finish tied for second! All of this of course ASSUMES that none of these teams are upset by the lower teams! Pekin did already beat Dunlap (3-0) but that game didn't count in the standings."
April 19 Game --
The rain, cold and wind keeps me home and shortens and postpones a game. Morton visits Wshington and leaves with a win, Dunlap traveled to Canton for a no contest, Limestone and East Peoria played to a 1-1 tie. The rescheduled Pekin at Metamora game saw a zip-zip tie. Is this groundhog "YEAR"?.
April 12 Game --
The first tie (1-1) of the conference season was played at Dunlap against Metamora. Morton continued on the path to a conference title with a 8 zip win over the Rockets. Sounds like the dogs were called off once Morton obtained an assure victory as they never scored after 28 minutes into the game. The first half ended at Pekin with the visiting Panthers leading 1 zip. The Washington keeper did an outstanding job in blocking all the Pekin attempts. The second half was all Dragons and they went on to a 3-1 win. Canton visited EastSide where the Raiders notched there first conference win of the season. Metamora remains in second place followed by Pekin, then Dunlap, Limestone, Washington, East Peoria and Canton.
April 10 Observation for the record --
Morton and Metamora are atop the standings with perfect 2-0-0 records. East Peoria and Canton are at the bottom with 0-2-0 records and in between is Dunlap, Limestone, Pekin, and Washington with 1-1-0 league records.
April 9 Games --
The four M-I teams scored victories over non-conference foes.
April 5 Games --
Morton's 10th consecutive MID-ILLINI championship seems assured with the win over the Dragons. The only question and interest I left for the Potters is how deep they will go in the state playoffs. Surprising to me on Tuesday night was not the Raiders being shutout, but the Raider defense only allowing Metamora one goal in 80 minutes. The Raiders might be the most improved team in the league. I am adding them to my fun list. Dunlap as expected took the Panthers by 1. I had expected a larger win from the Eagles. The Rockets easily handled the first year Little Giants. My interest now is -will the Dragons stay focused, are the Raiders improved, and what is with Metamora? (Also -- the "chatter" from the stands during the Tuesday Varsity game just about has convinced me to to enjoy sophomore games. - Plus much better light)
March 31 -
No surprises on the second day of Mid-Illini soccer. The Potters continue to dominate on both ends of the pitch. Washington played its first conference game at EastSide and defeated theRaiders 3-1. The first varsity season for Canton continued to be a challenge as the Rockets came to town and took a 5 zip win back to Bartonville.
March 29
- Conference play in the Mid-Illini starts on a day with a temperature of 42F being reported at 2:00pm.
RESULTS ... Three shutouts in the three games played. Canton by Metamora, Limestone by Pekin, and Dunlap by Morton. The Panther Raider game was postponed until Thursday. Also on Thursday, Canton travels to Limestone and Morton visits Metamora in a key matchup.
OPINION After next weeks Pekin at Morton game the Potters should have yet a another MID-ILLINI Soccer title signed sealed and delivered.
